Recommended Yacht Charter Season in Greece
The sailing season extends from May until the end of October.
- May and June. These months offer some of the most attractive charter rates and quieter marinas, creating a more relaxed sailing experience. The islands are at their greenest and most beautiful, while sea temperatures of approximately 22°C provide refreshing swimming conditions.
- July and August. Peak season brings warmer waters reaching around 27°C and long Mediterranean summer days. In the Cyclades, the famous Meltemi winds bring stronger northerly breezes, creating exciting sailing conditions for experienced crews. This period also sees the highest charter demand and busier marinas.
- September and October. Many experienced sailors consider early autumn to be Greece’s finest sailing season. Air temperatures frequently remain close to 30°C, the sea retains its summer warmth at approximately 27°C, and both charter prices and marina traffic become noticeably more moderate. October occasionally brings rainfall, although conditions generally remain highly favourable for sailing.
The Saronic Gulf
For families and crews seeking relaxed sailing conditions, the Saronic Gulf offers some of Greece’s most accessible cruising grounds. Departing from Athens, sailors can comfortably explore the nearby islands of Aegina, Poros, Spetses, and the remarkable island of Hydra, home to one of the most beautiful harbour settings in the world.
May and June are particularly attractive months, when the islands are lush, green, and filled with spring flowers.
The Ionian Islands
The Ionian Sea offers gentler sailing conditions and some of Greece’s most beautiful cruising grounds.

Located in the southeastern Aegean Sea near the Turkish coastline, the Dodecanese archipelago offers a quieter and more relaxed alternative to the Cyclades.
Winds here are typically lighter, marinas less crowded, and the atmosphere distinctly more tranquil, making the region ideal for those seeking a slower pace and peaceful island living.
